In the last years I have been interested in the (generalized or extended) geometry of String Theory. It was recently realized that 10 or 11-dimensional supergravities can be covariantized with respect to the duality symmetries of String or M-theory, provided the space on which they are defined is extended and constrained. The paradigmatic case is that of T-duality, where the duality invariant theory recieves the name of Double Field Theory. In these constructions, the standard diffeomorphisms are extended to include the gauge transforations of the p-forms, resulting in generalized diffeomorphisms in the extended space. The stringy geometry built from these novel notions lies beyond Riemannian geometry, and even allows to trascend the supergravity limit of String Theory.
Together with G. Aldazabal and C. Nuñez, we have written a (hopefully!) pedagogical review on the subject, and I also suggest the excellent review by D. Berman and D. Thompson.
